Lying

There are a few things a parent can do almost nothing about. You cannot control bodily eliminations, you cannot control food intake, and you cannot control lying. There are however, some things a parent can do to manage lying.

Lying for a child with RAD is like receiving a million dollars with a double scoop of ice cream on top. She will lie when the truth would excuse her. She lies consistently through the day about tiny irrelevant things and she gets away with much of it. The motivation to lie and the consistent reinforcement lies receive are far stronger than any punishment or consequence that can be given.
