THE ANTI-PARANOIA HORMONE
Compelling findings regarding the hormone oxytocin merit brief mention. A favorite among animal researchers, oxytocin affects a variety of behaviors, such as bonding, parenting, and so on. Presumably it influences humans as well. In studies where a human subject received a spray of the hormone up the nose, he was more likely to trust others. In laboratory studies in which money transfer was involved, the majority of those getting the oxytocin gave away most or all of their money compared to those who received nothing but a whiff of placebo.9
So perhaps paranoid individuals of the future will be dispensed with an inhaler much like those that people suffering from asthma carry around. All we need to do is convince them to take a snort of this peculiar hormone.
