Alejandro walked into her room.

After they’d dropped The Scot off with Aaron, he’d brought Cat up to her room. Unfortunately, he hadn’t been able to comfort her further. He’d had to go put out some more fires and get updates.

Sometimes it felt like he never stopped. There was always something that needed his attention.

But eventually, he’d managed to get everything settled down. As much as it could be. He’d also postponed the meeting again.

Joder.

He ran his hand over his face as he paused, unable to sense where she was.

And then he heard a noise from the bathroom. Relief flooded him as he stormed over. He had to see her. To make sure she was all right.

She’d promised none of the blood was hers. Still, he’d checked her over before he’d left her.

But there was still this worry that she was hiding something from him.

“Cat, what are you . . .” he trailed off as he saw her.

She was lying in the bath, all of her gorgeous, smooth skin on display. With a gasp, she tried to cover herself, but it was too late.

There was no erasing what he’d seen.

“Mierda,” he muttered quietly. “Eres muy hermosa.”

She sucked in a breath, staring up at him in shock. Surely, she had to know how beautiful she was.

He walked closer, his gaze on hers. Her cheeks were flushed, face filled with embarrassment. But there was also hunger there.

Go easy.

She is much younger than you.

There were so many reasons not to touch her. Yet, right at that moment, he couldn’t think of one.

She sat up, hiding her breasts from him. Fuck, he wanted to order her out of the bath and on her knees before him. To open her mouth so he could take it, claim it.

“Pequeña, what are you still doing in the bath? Have you been in here the whole time?” Worry filled him. It had been at least two hours since he’d left her.

You should have stayed and made sure she was all right.

Fuck. For the last ten years, business had come first, making money, building an empire, making himself the most powerful man in the country.

But something told him that he should have set that aside tonight.

For her.

This was all wrong. His priorities were all twisted.

“I tried,” she said in a raw voice as he crouched beside the bath. “I tried to get out. Several times. But every time I did . . . I saw more blood and I had to get back in, wash it off.”

Fuck.

Asshole. You told her you’d take charge. You practically forced her into it. Then you left her.

“I shouldn’t have left you.” It was the closest to an apology he could get.

“Why? It’s not your fault my brain has gone cuckoo.”

“Hey, do not talk that way. Today was . . . a lot.”

“What? You mean you don’t get shot at every day?” She attempted a smile.

“Actually, no.”

“Huh, that’s surprising.”

“Hey!” he protested.

This time, her smile was more genuine. “How is The Scot?”

“He’s fine. He’s tough as an old goat.
