Chapter Thirteen

Despite it being mid-December, there was hardly any snow on the ground: only a few patches here and there. John had told Tina he’d be back in Calgary on Thursday, but he’d decided to show up on Wednesday. An hour later, after they’d made love again, the phone rang. Tina rolled over and picked it up. “Hello?”

He could hear it was Eva. “Is he home?”

“Yes.”

“Good, I’ll be there in half an hour.”

“Eva’s on her way,” Tina said as she hung up, then laid her head on the pillow.

John had promised Eva a home-cooked dinner since it had been her birthday a few days ago and he couldn’t be there.
