Tires screeched across slick pavement as Tony took a turn a little too fast and Hunter slammed into the door. Arguably, probably not great for his injuries, but Tony was in a hurry, damn it. He wasn’t about to waste time slowing down for a turn he knew perfectly well he could make at speed.

“Dude! Slow down!” Hunter shouted from the passenger seat once he’d righted himself again, his fingers so tight around the towel Eric had given him to hold to his wound that his knuckles were going pale. Or maybe that was the blood loss. Tony didn’t really know enough about medicine to tell. They probably should have brought Eric in the car with them, then he could have monitored Hunter’s condition. But then Tony would have Eric in the back bitching about his driving and asking if he drove like this with Lu in the car, and honestly, it was better to not deal with that when he was trying to focus on slick roads.

“No can do, handsome. Gotta get you to the dorm so your wifey can patch you up.” Tony licked his lips as he shifted hard into the next gear, the engine roaring.

“I’m not gonna die if it takes us five whole extra minutes!” Hunter pulled the towel away, flailing his hand in Tony’s face to gesture toward his neck. “See? It’s already clotting!”

It was, partly. But there were still dribbles of blood, enough that it was a concern. Besides, there was the issue of the other damage that could be done in a vampire mauling like that. Deep nerve damage. Anemia. Add to all that the toxins that a vampire bite produced. Tony had experienced the hangover-like symptoms enough times to know they weren’t exactly kind. And he was a Venator, he was built for this. Hunter wasn’t. He was a witch, making him more susceptible to a vampire’s venom. The fact that he wasn’t feeling any pain probably had more to do with the loopy high of vamp toxins than adrenaline.

“Sorry buddy, Eric entrusted me to get you to your wifey before you passed out, and that’s what I’m gonna do.” Tony’s smile stretched into something manic, and his toes pressed down harder on the gas pedal.

“Yeah! Well! Getting into a car accident isn’t going to get you into Eric’s pants again!” With the towel wrapped tight around his neck once more, Hunter braced himself on the ceiling to keep from slamming into the window as Tony took another turn too hard.

He was being a little reckless, he knew he was. But that wasn’t going to stop him. Because there was something desperate in Eric’s face when he’d looked at Hunter sitting there on the pavement, bleeding out. Something like loss that Tony didn’t quite understand and didn’t think he wanted to. Loss, and guilt, and longing. It made Tony’s gut twist. Because—because why couldn’t Eric look at him like that? Why was he looking at this married guy like that? And yeah, okay, he was jealous.
