I hated Johnson had to see me taking care of business with Linda, but the truth was, in two days he and the others were due some cash and she was bullshittinâ. I just figured once he saw that money, heâd be willing to forget all about that and anything else that might worry him.
âYou straight?â I asked, wiping blood from Lindaâs lip off my hand. He shot me a cross eyed look even though he shook his head saying yes. I had a feeling he was lying, and thatâs what made me think there was a problem that ran a lot deeper than he was letting on.
He looked very confused. I wasnât really sure if concern was wrapped up in that look, but truthfully, I didnât really have time to think about it either. I just needed to know that he was on board and he understood what that meant.
âWhat youâd think about that punk Norman?â
Johnson didnât answer right away. He looked at me a few minutes later and said, âHowâd you even know it was him?â
âWell, I was leaving her house last night, after a serious session if you know what I mean, and I saw him look around then slipped toward the side of her place, when he thought no one was watching. So I played it cool and kept walking to my car. I got in and pulled off, then doubled back on foot, this fool was at her bedroom window by then. Once I knew it was him, I pulled up and figured weâd catch up with him later.â I shrugged as I slowed for a light.
âSo, you saw him going to her window, but you just left?â
âYeah, well, No and yes, I mean, I knew she wasnât home, so I wasnât tripping, I figured weâd roll up on his ass the next night.â
âBut I thought you said yâall just finished handling business, where had she gone that fast?â
I sighed, and tried to clean up the confusion. âWhat I meant to say was she wasnât in the bedroom. Thatâs what I mean.â
âOh, okay, I see,â he said like he didnât believe me. I couldnât worry about that though, I needed to make a few more stops before we called it a night, and it was more important that he understood that.
If Johnson had any questions about what went down with Linda or anything else, he didnât ask. After making a few more pick up stops, I was confident all kinds of questions shouldâve been floating around in his head, and it concerned me that he wasnât asking any questions.
When I pulled up in front of his place I stopped him before he jumped out.
âLook, are you okay with all of this?â
He looked at me; âAll of what Hawk?â
âCâmon now nigga, donât play me. Weâre bringing you in to our little operation and we just need to know that youâre cool with whatâs going on. I asked if you were ready to get your hands dirty,
