Modern Models and Replicas

Figure 3.36 shows a nice modern presentation model, with the glass protective cover removed, showing the inscription that acknowledges 70 years of Sir Patrick Moore’s membership of the British Astronomical Association . Figure 3.37 shows the detail of the inscription. Once more beautifully modeled by Jeanie, Sir Patrick’s other cat, is a modern orrery (Fig. 3.38) assembled at home through the regular subscription for the collection of parts. A detail of the top plate and rocky planets is shown in Fig. 3.39. Copies of some of the eighteenth-century orreries are replicated for sale in amazing beauty and detail, for example Ferguson orreries.
