He took his turn on the county council, the old telephone mutual. People counted on him to be stubborn about the things that mattered. So he stood up to the hazardous waste plant. He turned his farm organic, grew fruit, in that climate north of the river, started a winery, and didn’t stop until he got the right to sell it. He did things first, that is, the hard way.
