‘I really don’t think it’s right, not in front of the children,’ cautioned Geoff as he took a step back from the kitchen table.

Felicity laughed, ‘You don’t know Tilly as well as I do, she’s going to be in hysterics. That’s the whole point, Carl will open it in front of the kids, will have to quickly hide it, and then have to explain to the children what it is and why they can’t see it.’

Geoff shook his head at the bright red action figure before him. Its hands were splayed apart, proudly in the air and its legs, stood firmly on the kitchen table, leant back so that its midriff poked out and displayed a bright red, bulbous erection. Underneath this phallus was a groove for opening bottles. ‘Does he even drink beer?’

‘Course he does, he’s an old squaddie, he doesn’t drink much at home, but when he and his pals gather, I think to remember their fallen, they get paralytic. Poor Tilly gets to spend the evening with their wives and girlfriends, making polite chit-chat because they don’t know each other and by the time another year passes, they have new partners. This big tool will go down a storm with his mates. I bet he’ll proudly have it in his man cave, he’ll start the night by showing them around, with beer in hand, before going for a pub crawl. It’s about the only time he gets blind drunk. He won’t admit it to us, but I think he feels guilty for coming home, when some didn’t.’

Geoff nodded, took a step towards the cheeky gift, picked it up, balanced it in his hands as if weighing it, and said, ‘Best we get it wrapped then.’
