That night, a disheartened Agatha returned to her house. After taking Mike on a walk, she grabbed her laptop to research Rebecca Brannigan. She discovered an article about the young girl’s disappearance 35 years ago and how it had remained a mystery for all these years. As she scrolled through the article, she couldn’t help but feel a sense of sadness for the poor girl who had met such a tragic end. Suddenly, she stumbled upon a photo of Rebecca listed on a social media website discussing her disappearance. It was the same picture Detective Dawson had shown her earlier that day. She was certain now that the remains found in her backyard were indeed Rebecca’s.

Feeling overwhelmed, Agatha called Emma to fill her in on everything she had discovered. “Emma, I don’t know what to do. I feel so helpless. The skeleton may not be Cecilia’s, but where is she? What if we never find out what happened to her?” she asked, her voice shaking with emotion.

Emma tried to comfort her friend, “Agatha, we can’t give up hope. There has to be a way to find out what happened to her. We just have to keep looking.”

Agatha appreciated her friend’s words of encouragement and hung up the phone, feeling slightly better. She then decided to work on her mystery novel to distract herself from her troubles. She sat down at her Royal KMM typewriter and began to type furiously, getting lost in the story.

She glanced at the clock and noticed it was nearing 2 a.m., so she shuffled to the back door of the house with Mike following closely behind. The moonlight cast an eerie yet calming glow on the backyard, providing enough light for her to observe what mischief Mike had gotten into this time. Suddenly, his tail began to wag, and he started frantically digging around in the corner. “Mike, we don’t have time for this now!” she scolded. He ignored her plea and continued his digging until finally retrieving something from the grass.

She could faintly make out a plastic bag in his mouth as he trotted over to her. With shaking hands, she grabbed the bag from his mouth and peered inside, she saw a single earring intertwined with ripped fragments of an old pink silk scarf. Initially she didn’t think anything of it but as she inspected it further, she realized what she’d found. “This earring… It matches the earing Rebecca’s is wearing in the picture.” She voiced.

“This could be a crucial piece of evidence.” she muttered to herself.

Mike approached her, sitting back on his haunches with a heavy pant. It looked almost as if he was smiling, seemingly proud of his latest "archaeological find." His tongue hung out of his mouth, completing the picture of a satisfied and happy dog.

She shook her head, a smile tugging at the corners of her mouth as she reached down to caress him on the head. "I don't know what to do with you, Mike," she said affectionately, her fingers running through his soft fur.
