This noisy and fun game is one of the greatest-loved childrenâs card games. Two or more can play. A standard deck is used. It doesnât matter if any cards are missing. Itâs a good idea to use two decks if more than three people are playing. Players strive to win all the cards. The dealer deals out all cards in a clockwise directionâface down, one at a time. Itâs OK if some players have more cards than the others.
Players put cards in a neat face-down pile in front of them. Players may not look at their cards. The player to the dealerâs left turns over the top card of his or her face-down pile and places it face up to start a face-up pile of cards next to his or her face-down pile. The player to the left does the same and so on around the players. Whenever any player sees that the top cards of any two face-up piles have the same valueâtwo kings, two sixes, two tens, etc.âthat player shouts, âSnap!â This player collects both piles of cards and places them at the bottom of own face-down pile.
Play continues with the player to the left of the last player who turned over a card. If two players shout âsnap!â together, the matching face-up piles are pooled in the center. Players continue turning over cards. The first player to shout âsnap pool!â when the top card of any playerâs face-up pile matches the top pool card collects the pool pile along with the face-up pile and places them at the bottom of his or her own face-down pile.
Whenever players run out of face-down cards, they turn over their face-up cards on their next turn. If a player calls âsnap!â in error, that player must give one card from his or her own face-down pile to each of the other players. The winner is the player with all the cards in the end.
