Tranquility Base: the historic Apollo XI landing site, where astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin first set foot on the Moon in 1969, is situated in the southern extremes of Mare Traquillitatis – the ‘Sea of Tranquillity’. None of the Apollo sites are visible from Earth with ground-based telescopes – they’re simply too small to be resolved at such a distance – but you can admire the location around the landing site where history was made. To the west are craters Ritter and Sabine, both about 30 km wide. Tranquility Base.
