Solution I

Centrifugal filtration is analougous to the gravitational one with the main difference that, in the former, the fluid phase takes advantage of the centrifugal force to overcome the pressure drops across the cake. While in gravitational filtration the driving force can be improved by pumping inherts in the system, in centrifugal filtration the same effect can be obtained by speeding up the rotation.

The liquid to be filtered takes a cylindrical shape parallel to the basket walls due to the high rotational speed, therefore the lateral surface corresponds to the filtration area.

This operation is characterized by two phenomena:Decantation: solid particles velocity is higher than the liquid one. Thus, the first phenomenon is the deposition of the solid cake on the filter surface. After that, the already clarified liquid passes across the maximum possible resistance from the very beginning;
