Chapter Ten

Fleur was positively buzzing the next day, excited for the Halloween party and eager to get ready. Although she was going with me and Tyrel, I knew she was most excited about seeing Drew again. They'd even opted for a couples’ costume of Jack and Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas.

“You didn't really get your dad a cat costume?” I asked after Tyrel left us in the evening to get ready for the party.

Fleur laughed. “I'll only tell you the truth if you promise not to tell dad.” She said and tossed her makeup bag onto my bed.

“That's a no, then.” I smiled and rolled my eyes. “It's mean to torment your father like that.”

“I'm sure I don't know what you mean.”

I flashed her a grin and looked at my outfit hanging on the front of the wardrobe.

Fleur followed my gaze. “I thought you said you were going as a witch?”

“You were expecting a pointy hat and a broomstick,” I said while running my hand down the velvet full-length chemise with its ornate over-tunic and grinning. The velvet was a deep malachite green and the chemise, which laced up at the front, was a slightly lighter shade with a golden Celtic design. “How many witches have you met who dress like that? Though, in truth, I debated the option, but when I searched for an outfit online, the Vintage Medieval Renaissance Outlander Witch dress, as this was titled, appealed the most.” It really was a pretty dress.

“Ooh, fancy,” Fleur said and stroked the velvet. “Mine was just called the Sally costume.”

“Well, let me see it.” I'd barely finished my sentence before Fleur disappeared into her room and came back with a very colourful and very short patchwork dress, as well as a long and straight red wig.

“I have a pair of 3/4 length lace-up ankle boots to complete the look. Make-up will do the rest.”

I smiled. “You will look lovely in it as always,” I said and glanced at the clock. “We have an hour to get ready.”

Fleur bobbed on her toes and swung the dress around. “We'd better stop with the chit-chat and get ready then.”

As expected, Fleur was picture perfect in no time. And the wig looked amazing on her. I envied her for both her cheekbones and her youth. Most of the time was spent with her helping me to deal with my unruly hair. Wiz that she was, Fleur tamed it with a low, wide bun and a mix of braided plaits.

“There we go. All ready,” she said and pulled me down the stairs.

Tyrel must have heard as he appeared at the bottom of them in the hall and smiled while saying, “About time. You both look amazing.”

Fleur linked her arm in his. “You don't look too bad yourself.”

She was right, of course. In the long leather trench coat Tyrel had donned along with a white linen shirt, grey tactical vest and a pair of black chinos, Tyrel looked pretty dashing. Idris Elba, eat your heart out.
