Chapter Six

Insults and Vendettas

Once we were at the park, we divided up the team again as evenly as possible. Major Miller wanted badly to go through the portal with us along with his split team members. I agreed to that plan and left this side of the portals defenses up to Andre and the men who would stay. Demitri and Antonio came with me this time, not trusting the Dai’ Khans alone with me on their world. I looked archly at the General, having lost my sense of humor the more I thought about what he had said. I guess I couldn’t really blame the guy, but I had been there for him and his military many times and that should have bought me some credit. I walked through the portal and waited patiently for the others to come through. I was happy to see two dragons guarding the gateway and gave them each a hug. General Pierce had just come through, when he saw me cuddling up to a dragon, and he stopped to gape at the sight.

I disengaged from the hug and said to the General, “This is my friend, Corves. He is the son of my dragon, Cornelia.” Others had stepped through the gate and stopped as well. “Please, no alarms and no shooting or I’ll kick your ass. You’ll only piss them off anyway. These are my friends Corves and Gordon. They are guarding the gate on this side. I guess I should have warned you.”

I had known, but I was still upset and thought this would be good payback. I was feeling a tad bitchy.

My sister gave me an evil grin. She knew exactly why I did it, and surprisingly, she agreed with my method of vendetta.

“Umm, well yes, pleased to meet you both.” The General was trying hard to roll with this situation. He had done well with everything I had thrown at him before, but I could see he was going to have trouble with this one, and we hadn’t even started yet. Corves, picking up my true emotion, snuffled and let out a puff of smoke which enveloped the General, making him cough. I had to hide my face so no one would see that I was highly amused.

Once I had my face arranged correctly, I turned back around, to say, “He says hello.”

“He really understood me?” the General asked, between hacks of coughing.

“Yes, they are highly intelligent and telepathic,” I informed him with glee. I knew how badly telepathy troubled the General and waited for the unease to come. I wasn’t long in waiting.

I decided to get really bitchy. “There are more dragons coming to fly us to the portal of Trinidad, and no, there is no other way there fast enough,” I said, before the General could ask which, of course, made him even more uneasy.

Demitri and Antonio came to flank me. Demitri sent me a thought, ‘Sweetheart, you might want to ease up a bit.’

I glared at him. ‘Why the fuck should I?’

Demitri’s eyes were round in shock.
