Chapter 12

“It isn’t right to yell at a god girl.” I opened my eyes. A tall man with black hair and golden eyes was standing right in front of me. I jumped and reached for my blade. “You can’t kill a god girl and you aren’t in any danger.”

“Who are you?” My entire body itched with unease as I looked frantically at my closed door.

“Don’t worry, your precious guards can’t hear a word we are saying. I put a shield around this room even if they check on you. They will see you soundly sleeping in that bed.” This cannot be real. “I am very real, Zirena.”

“Get out of my head.”

“If they taught you like I instructed those damned fools, I wouldn’t be able to get in your head, you wouldn’t lose control of yourself, and you wouldn’t be nearly biting the prince’s head off because your lust for him is far too great.”

“Lucan?” I guessed, and he gave me a pitiful bow before speaking.

“At your service.”

“What are you doing here?”

“You called, and I answered.”

“I thought you were asleep. The lords said—”

“Listen to me, Zirena. Those idiots do not know what they are saying.”

“Answer my questions.”

He smiled at me, showing all white teeth and four fangs, not just two.

“Let us drink because I have heard you screaming at me for months. You don’t know how loud you are and it's annoying.” Two wine glasses and a pitcher appeared on the wooden table in the center of the room. He motioned to the chair across from him as he sat down and drank. The liquid was a crimson color, and I sniffed it. “It isn’t blood, if you are wondering. Although, I expect once you get your first taste, you won’t be able to stop.”

“I have maintained control,” I said as I sipped the bitter wine.

“Tell me, girl, how have you been able to resist sinking your teeth down on him? Or resisting to bed him?”

I rubbed my sweaty hands on the skirt of my lap. “That’s a personal question.”

“I mean, I can guess, and I will be right, but I just need to hear it, to ease my curiosity.” I rolled my eyes. Lucan was not what I expected a god to look like. He appeared just like a mortal man with tanned skin, a muscled body, and black shaggy hair. The only difference was those sharpened four canines, pointed ears, and golden eyes.

“I don’t know why or how I have been able to stop myself. I almost didn’t.” I let out a ragged breath because that was not the answer he wanted. “When I first saw him, in the forest outside your temple, I almost pounced on him for being a mortal in our lands. But there was something else. A feeling that told me it was not right, and that I did not just want to taste his blood, but I wanted him to be mine. It happened again after that and then I kissed him.” I took a sip and Lucan was listening intently.
