“What do you think, Jamison?” Jenna asked after the interview concluded.

“We can’t cross her off the list, boss. She had a motive and no alibi. I want to think it wasn’t her, but facts count, not my feelings.”

“Facts are what we build a case on, Tricia,” Jenna agreed. “But we also have to listen to our instincts, especially when the facts are so sparse. We got her fingerprints so we can compare them to the unknowns from the Mercedes. But Mrs. Lockwood said the attacker was wearing gloves, so it is unlikely prints from the car will be relevant. However, if they are hers, it’s proof she lied about something.”

“Little lie, big lie,” Jamison quoted and smiled at Jenna. “Thanks. Do you think it was her?”

“No. I won’t rule her out, but if she was going to kill him, it would have been in the heat of the moment, not three years later. True, getting dumped is a stressor, but if you’re going to go all homicidal, why not knock off the guy who ditched you on New Year’s Eve? And call this Ralf character and corroborate her statement.”

“I’m on it, boss!”
