I TOOK A TAXI TO HER apartment. The place was nothing like where I lived.

“Hey! Come on up! I’m almost ready!” Lacy shouted from the balcony a couple stories up.

I nodded and looked around before walking through the door on the first floor.

I took the elevator up to her floor and walked down to her apartment, knocking.

“Door is unlocked!” she shouted from inside.

I shook my head. Why would she leave her door unlocked? I groaned walking in and locking it behind me.

I stood by the door with my bag held tightly in my hands. Normally I would have something to fidget with, but I didn’t want to set my bag down.

“Hey,” she said walking out of what I assumed was her bathroom.

Her dark blue dress crossed at the top near her neck and ran down to her knees.

“Wow, you look amazing,” I whispered.

“Thank you, you look smashing yourself! I’ll only be a minute; I just need to find me shoes and grab my bag.”

I nodded. “Take your time.” I looked around her tiny apartment and noticed that things were still in boxes.

“Are you planning to move again?” I asked.

“What?” she questioned poking her head out of the bedroom as she put an earring in her ear.

“Your stuff is in boxes,” I noted.

“Oh, yeah I just have to finish unpacking,” she said as she disappeared again into her room.

“Oh,” I muttered.

“Okay, ready,” she said walking out of her room and turning off the light behind her.

She had a bag slung over her shoulder.

“Here, let me take that for you,” I said taking her bag and putting it over my own shoulder.

“Thank you, let’s go.”

I followed her out the door, and she made sure to lock the door that time.

Once we were safely on the road, I turned my attention to her.

“Why do you live in that apartment?” I asked.

“What?”

“I don’t mean to be too blunt, but the company pays you well, doesn’t it?”

“Of course, it does,” she replied.

“So, why don’t you go get a better place to live?”

“Because this way I can save some money, so when I do go get a better place, I have a backup. Besides, that place isn’t bad. Just has a lot of added character.” She winked.

“I guess.” I sighed. “So you never told me who she works for.”

“Oh, um Tyler Foley.”

“Tyler Foley the app designer?”

She shrugged. “I guess that’s who he is. I know he’s quite wealthy.”

“What does your neighbor do for him?”

“Personal assistant.”

I nodded.
