[704] These are the profound practical instructions of Avalokitesvara. Having already presented introductions to both the Breakthrough and Leap-over stages of the Great Perfection, the reason why the union of those two is needed is stated in The Secret Tantra of the Sun of the Blazing Clear Expanse of the Dakinis:
With no Breakthrough, there is no Leap-over. With no Leap-over, there is no Breakthrough.
The Tantra of the Compendium of the Contemplations of Samantabhadra states:
If the meaning of this Breakthrough is not realized, Even if the Leap-over is experienced, it will be dualistic. Confusing the meaning with non-experiential gibberish Is like throwing gold nuggets back into a stream.
[705] Thus, the union of the twofold vision of the ground-namely, attending to the essential nature of the Breakthrough, Mahamudra- and the path-namely, the clear light of the Leap-over-is the pinnacle of the nine yanas. Moreover, it is prophesied that in degenerate times in this snowy land [of Tibet] this will flourish and spiritual fruition will be attained. The Tantra of the Great Perfection Inquiry into Deceptive Appearances states:
When many years have gone by After I have passed into nirvana, The supreme fruition will be attained By countless beings in the northland.
The Tantra of Treasures states:
After five hundred [years], the Secret Mantra[yanal will flourish in the regions to the north. [706] From that time on, this fruitional Dharma of the Secret Mantra[yana] will be experienced by some individuals. They will attain states of fruition that will not be meager.
When Orgyen Rinpoche was about to leave for the Land of the Cannibals, he said:
In the future, fortunate people will gradually appear, and if they practice single-pointedly, results will occur before long, even though it is a degenerate era; and there will be many who attain siddhis.
Therefore, the clear light Leap-over should be practiced. In this regard there are four topics: (A) first of all striking the critical points in terms of the body, speech, and mind; (B) on the basis of the three critical points, letting direct perception come to you; (C) teachings on the way the four visions appear if you practice; and (D) concluding advice.
