I smile at the goofy good morning text from Maggie. Who would’ve thought a meme of a plump cat with a mug of a coffee would make me smile?

“Good morning. How did the interviews go last night?” Zoe asks, bringing me my morning coffee and agenda.

“The first two that were scheduled aren’t qualified. The third one didn’t bother to show.”

Zoe shrugs. “You have two more scheduled today and two more tomorrow. We’ll find someone. Mainly because you don’t have a choice. I’m getting my honeymoon.”

“As if I would deny you that.”

“I’m not working during my honeymoon.”

“I would pay you overtime.”

She shakes her head. “You need to remember that whoever you hire is only a temp. They don’t have to be like uber qualified, just qualified. I know no one can compare to me, but you have to choose someone.”

“I’ll review their resumes again. This is why I said you should interview them. You know what’s needed from them more than I do.”

“And you’ll be happy with whoever I choose?”

“Sure. As long as they’re qualified.”

“Deal.”

I hand her the final approval for the shipment to the shelters and the signed invoices that need to go to the accounting department.

“What is this look you have going on today?” she asks. “You’re smiling.”

“And that’s a bad thing?”

“Nope. You smile. This smile is different.” She walks around my desk and pulls my chair out, looking underneath. “Just checking.”

I roll my eyes. Although, after what happened between Maggie and me last night, I wouldn’t mind her being on her knees with my dick in her mouth, her perfect lips gliding up and down my shaft.

“Why the fuck would I lose my virginity to Vera after I told you I was interested in Maggie?”

“Hmm. I don’t know. Probably because you didn’t even bother to call Maggie.”
