Early on in the pregnancy, Rachel suffered a massive bleed and was told by doctors that she had placenta praevia, where her low-lying placenta partially covered her cervix. This meant that she was a high-risk pregnancy and she had to go to the hospital every other week for a check-up. Rachel aimed to keep positive that everything would work out, and she would talk to Justin up to five times a day on FaceTime to assure him that she and their unborn child were doing well.

'We were lucky because we could talk regularly throughout the day, so me being so far away could have been a lot worse,' says Justin. 'It was disappointing because, of course, I wanted to be with Rachel every step of her pregnancy. I wanted to see our first child growing inside her belly and to be there at every hospital appointment to hold Rachel's hand. I missed it all, which as a husband was devastating. We had to get on with it because, being in the army, I didn't have a choice, so FaceTiming each other was very important. Seeing and talking to Rachel gave me peace of mind when I was so far away.'
