Crab Apple Tree

My sister and I planted a flowering crab apple tree for our mom on Mother’s Day. We went to the nursery together to pick it out. Our mom knows a lot about plants and trees from her parents and various classes she took in college. The flowering crab apple tree was one I remembered learning about from her when I was young. We had a young guy who worked at the nursery help us load it into my car. It rode home with us, stuffed in there like a pudgy passenger who doesn’t care about personal space. When we got home, we wouldn’t let my mom go outside until it was planted because it was a surprise. My sister and I had never planted a tree before, but the tree came with instructions. It was so amusing and fun to figure out together how to plant it with the least chance of it dying soon. Eventually, it was in the ground, and we decided we did our best. Our mom was happy to meet her new lawn buddy. It’s still alive and has gorgeous magenta blooms in the springtime.
