It had been a few days since Tessaâs abrupt departure, and I sat in my office, frustrated as fuck and confused as hell as I stared down at my phone. Since Iâd spoken to Tristan in the meantime, I knew she was okay, but I wouldnât have if not for him.
Iâd called and texted her a bunch of times, but she hadnât responded once. Obviously, she was ignoring me. I just didnât know why.
Tristan seemed to be back to his usual self, but now it looked like the other Hayes twin had gone haywire. Gripping my phone in my hand, I willed it to ring but it didnât. It was what Iâd been doingâand with the same outcomeâsince sheâd pulled her little hit and run.
A growl came out of me when the screen died again without ringing. I was so damn sick of this. Tessa had been playing it hot and cold since Iâd gotten back, and at this point, all I wanted to know was what had gone wrong.
If she didnât want anything more than sex from me, then I wouldnât force the issue, but it sure wouldâve been nice to have known what the fuck was going on. Iâd thought things were going well between us despite the development issues that we still needed to work through, but then sheâd gone and disappeared from the face of the earth after weâd slept together.
Out of fucking nowhere, sheâd rolled out of bed practically before Iâd even caught my breath, looking like sheâd been on the verge of tears, and now she was nowhere to be found. Honestly, if I hadnât casually mentioned her to Tristan when Iâd spoken to him yesterday, Iâd have thought sheâd been kidnapped or something.
There was complete radio silenceâso bad she wasnât even reading my messages. Theyâd all been delivered to her, but not a single one had been read.
As I tossed my phone down on my desk, I couldnât resist the urge anymore. So far, I had stayed the fuck off the internet and social media, but now I had to know. This was getting ridiculous, and the lack of answers was driving me up the fucking wall.
If she was dealing with something major at Hearts and Homes, then it still wouldnât explain why sheâd left my place so abruptly and especially in the state sheâd been in, but at least Iâd know if work was why she was avoiding me. By the same token, if there was nothing out of the ordinary happening there, then Iâd know that wasnât my answer. That it wasnât work but personal.
At this point, since Iâd prefer any answer to no answer, I went online and checked her social media pages first. There was nothing really there except a few inspirational-type things sheâd shared, and when I landed on the organizationâs social media page and saw there wasnât a crisis there either, my heart dropped.
Tessaâs face smiled back at me from my screen, a selfie sheâd posted of her and some of the volunteers.
