This short story made more money for Craig than any of her others —not because she continued to sell it, but because she used the story as collateral for her loans from wealthy mystery aficionado Ned Guymon. The collector was fascinated by the story, which he described as the only one where the victim is “f***ed [sic] to death. " Fred Dannay demurred at publishing the story, concerned about sending what some might consider pornography through the mail.
