Luca

After Jessica left, as promised, Cody and I spent the rest of the night outside. He stayed in the car all night. I opted for a chase lounge by the pool. Carmine talked about his only grandchild all the time. He wanted to have a large presence in Michelina’s life, but Francrs blocked him. Carmine was such a big presence and from what I’ve learned so far about the girl, maybe he would have been a good part of her life. Unfortunately, we’ll never know. Sometimes he wanted to talk off the record. Honestly, I never had a problem with that. He always said, “Luca, you’re on the wrong side in life. You could have been my right-hand man.” I would laugh and thought if you only knew. The sliding glass door opens and Michelina steps out. She drops her towel on the chair and works her way down the pool steps. I’m hiding behind my shades, pretending I’m doing something on my phone. She slowly lowers herself into the pool, trying to act like she is not putting on a show for me. She takes off her bathing suit top and tosses it on the chair next to me. I stay still and say nothing. She does a couple of laps and then tosses her bathing suit bottom on to the chair.

“I usually do my morning swim in the nude, but I didn’t want to make you feel uncomfortable, Luca.”

I get up and crouch down in front of her, tilt my head towards her face and brush my lips over hers. Getting a taste of her nearly makes me forget the truth. The truth about me, the truth about her, and why taking this any further is forbidden. It could be deadly for both of us. I shake those thoughts from my head and get back to reality. “I don’t have a problem with it at all, however, you need to finish up here. We have to head over to my office. Apparently, a creditable threat came in on you. My boss wants to put you in Witness Protection. I’ll meet you out front.” I don’t wait for an answer; I turn and leave Just missing the water she splashes my way. I can’t help but laugh.
