CHAPTER EIGHT
MONDAY
2:07 pm
I headed back to Sunrise Campsite, making sure to wear some old boots this time. My black canvas shoes I had worn last time took me forever to get the dirt off of.
I waved to a woman watering a pot of succulents. âHi Dove!â I called out.
She looked up. For such a simple task, Dove was decked out to the nines. She wore elbow-length vinyl gloves, a large sunhat, and overalls that I bet cost more than I made in a week.
âHey there,â she said softly.
âI wanted to ask you about Angel Ramos, who is staying at the campsite right now.â
She frowned, and only the faintest frown lines appeared on her forehead. She either had the best genes in the world, a killer face routine, or help from some other source. It was probably all three. Her skin had a glow to it that I could only dream of having.
âThat name still doesnât sound familiar.â She held up a finger. âLet me check.â
Dove pulled off her gloves, in a way that she never touched the exterior of them with her skin, and we went into the office. She logged onto her computer and started searching.
The office was minimally decorated. It was efficient, but stylish. I had a hunch the large framed paintings of foliage and wildlife were Doveâs doing. There was even a handwritten guestbook that guests had signed their names in. I sat on the wooden chair before her desk and waited.
âI donât have an Angel Ramos staying here,â she finally said. âLook, I probably shouldnât even be telling you this. My grandmother would have a fit if I gave out the wrong information to the wrong person.â She gently frowned again. âBut if thereâs someone staying here who isnât supposed to be, I need to know.â
âI saw him bringing out laundry the day of the sendoff.â
âAre you sure heâs staying here? And heâs not a laundry pickup carrier?â
âI guess he could be. It just didnât seem like it. Angel came out from inside the RV and locked the door on his way out.â
Dove stood up, locking her computer screen. âCan you show me which RV it was?â
We went to the RV I saw Angel holding laundry at, and Dove sighed when she saw which one it was.
âI know whoâs staying there. Itâs a couple who probably bartered for your guy to do their laundry or something. Theyâre constantly wheeling and dealing with other people here, and to be honest, Iâve received a few complaints about it.â
âItâs not helpful kind of stuff, then?â
âThey expect too much without giving back. They donât have many services they can offer, but they want the world handed to them on a silver platterâbut even if it was, they would still have complaints.
âHonestly, I think theyâre used to a much more lavish lifestyle and donât know how to adjust to a bare-bones one. Speaking as someone who kind of went through a similar situation recently, I donât get why they are so adamant at not adapting.
