It’s the 4th of July. I had made it a date night for us without even thinking about the fact that it’s a holiday. While I’m with Max and Nick, I offer to cancel date night if Max prefers to go out with friends. I hate going out on holidays. The crazy people, crowds, DUI checkpoints are not things that I consider appealing. I tell him that it’s up to him. He tells me that he wants to be with me. He says he doesn’t care about the holiday. I have a few hours that I have to head home and be Max-less before Max comes over at 9pm. Max has a friend that he just wants to pop in and see. He swears he will bike from there to my place by 9pm. I ask him if he’s sure. He promises and kisses me goodbye as I drive home. I doubt that I will see him tonight.
