Jane struggled to read the letter, for her eyes had begun to water.

Mr. Bingley’s missive was very honest and open, and the sincerity in his words touched the eldest.

She hoped this meant Mr. Bingley cherished their friendship as much as he confessed in his letter, for two individuals cannot have a deep relationship unless they let down their guards and become vulnerable.

“You must write him back,” exclaimed Lydia.

“Yes, we are in need of a ball,” Kitty added.

Jane closed her eyes with a small smile. As much as she would rather her family be concerned for her, it seemed only Mr. Bingley did at present.

“That decision is Jane’s to make alone,” said Papa. “Now what about that performance?”

The letter was soon forgotten, as the sisters put on a show about a gentleman who became lost in a forest, and he found solace in a house inhabited by a wicked witch. A short period passed before Lizzy entered the room, a big smile on her face, as she recounted how the theatrical came to a conclusion.

“Oh, tree number two, you should have been there,” said Lizzy. “The gentleman was informed, by a frog, to take the spring water and give it to the witch. It would turn her into her truest form, which was that of a troll. The witch was extremely vexed that she was not made into a beautiful maiden and left the production. It was far too amusing!”

Lizzy threw herself upon the bed before looking over at Jane and saw that her sister was not moved.

“Jane, are you not happy?” asked she. “Mr. Bingley finally wrote you a letter.”

The eldest sister smiled lightly. “I am happy, but why did it take Mr. Bingley so long to write to me?”

Lizzy made her way to Jane’s side and hugged her sister. “Dearest, Jane, I believe you are overthinking this predicament once more. Why, if I had a gentleman, and he finally wrote to me after a long absence, I would have assumed he had been trapped at sea, locked up in a
