Chapter Eleven

Unlike last time, Eli knocked lightly on Keddrick’s door and waited. When he was granted entrance, his hand trembled as he turned the knob. The room was dark, the fire in the hearth the only light. The sound of curtains rustling in the breeze drew his attention to the bedroom beyond. Crossing through the ten foot archway, Eli stepped into the room that held such happy memories. Their first time together had been rushed, but it’d been beautiful. Eli smiled. He pictured Keddrick above him, that long, soft, black hair like a curtain, closing them into their own little world.

His smile faltered when he thought of what he’d done afterwards, and all the pain it had caused since. If he could only turn back time.

But he couldn’t. All he could do now was try to make it right.

He looked over to the balcony. The doors were wide open and Keddrick stood just beyond them. Without thought, he glided his hand over the edge of the bed as he walked past. Stepping through the threshold, Eli shivered as the crisp autumn air surrounded him. Still silent, he stood behind the man he loved, desperately wanting to touch him. Uncertainly, he lifted his hand.

“What do you want, Eli?”

Eli’s shoulders slumped and he dropped his hand back to his side.

Licking his suddenly dry lips, he said, “I know I’ve said it before, but I want to say it again.” He wished Keddrick would look at him. “I’m sorry.”

The silence was heavy between them and Eli’s chest tightened with sorrow. The seconds ticked by and still not a word. Defeated, Eli turned, ready to walk away.

Strong hands gripped his arms, swinging him back around. Soft, firm lips covered his, and Eli felt his resolve crumble. Melting into Keddrick’s arms, Eli parted his lips, moaning when Keddrick’s tongue slipped into his mouth. He reached up and threaded his fingers into the vampire’s hair. Keddrick ravished his mouth, stealing the air like it was his last dying breath.

It ended all too soon. They stood there panting as Keddrick rested his forehead against Eli’s.

Keddrick cupped his face. “I’m so mad at you,” he said roughly, his pain prominent in his voice. He kissed Eli again and it was chaste and sweet. “But I love you.”

“I love you too,” Eli breathed out, his own voice shaky.

Keddrick sighed and released his hold on Eli. Sad, beautiful eyes gazed down at him.

“But I have to ask myself…is loving you enough to look past all of this?”

Eli’s breath caught, his stomach twisting in fear.

Keddrick took in a deep breath then let it out slowly.

“I know what I did was wrong.” Eli felt the anger of this whole situation burn inside him. Damn it, couldn’t Keddrick see that Eli had thought he’d been protecting him?

That was it.

Eli stood taller, his lips thinning in frustration. “You’ve made the same mistake I have.”

Keddrick’s eyebrows pulled together. “What are you talking about?”

Mustering up as much courage as he could, he said, “You put us through hell.
