DUE TO OVERWHELMING demand, not everyone who calls for tickets to Messages from Beyond receives them. That’s what the operator told Carmen when, after dozens and dozens of tries, she finally got through. “If the tickets don’t come within four to six weeks, call us back, and try again.” Peggy thinks that’s hogwash. She should get tickets for being such a loyal viewer. She’s never missed a show and has seen most of them a few times.

Her calendar hangs on the kitchen wall. Grace made it for her last Christmas. Every page is decorated with images of the twins or George Clooney because Peggy has a mad crush on him. Grace even photoshopped Peggy’s face over George’s wife in a few of the pictures. Seeing them now makes Peggy smile. She counts off four weeks from today and in blue marker writes, “Messages Tix.” The day next to it is marked up with red ink that says “G&G home for Thanksgiving.” Well, Peggy will have two things to be grateful for on the holiday.

She’s so certain that she will get the tickets that she’s already made an appointment with Carmen for a haircut—or makeover, as Carmen called it. Peggy also has decided that she will step up her efforts in boot camp and eat a cleaner diet because she needs to look better when Lynda McGarry makes contact with Patrick. Of course, the medium won’t be able to connect with the loved ones of everyone in the audience, but Peggy’s certain Lynda McGarry will make contact with Patrick. She won’t allow herself to think otherwise.
