The town’s most economical lodging is Timbers Motel (8540 MT 35 S., 406/837-6200, timbersmotel.com, mid-May-Oct., $105-150), a Wyndham Travelodge located within a five-minute drive of Eagle Bend Golf Course. It has a heated pool, hot tub, and sauna.

In downtown Bigfork adjacent to the historic steel bridge over the Swan River, Bridge Street Cottages (309 Bridge St., 406/837-2785 or 888/264-4974, bridgestreetcottages.com, $125-445) offers upscale lodging. Four of the units overlook the Swan River. Surrounded by small perennial gardens, these well-furnished one-bedroom cottages come with fully equipped kitchens and fireplaces. Suites are smaller, with just a fridge and a microwave. You can walk to restaurants.

Averill’s Flathead Lake Lodge (150 Flathead Lake Lodge Rd., 406/837-4391, www.flatheadlakelodge.com, mid-June-Aug.) is a family-owned working dude ranch. Lodging, meals, and activities are all included in one price for a week: Rates start at $4,123 for adults. Rates for children are lower. With horseback riding, fishing, swimming, waterskiing, tennis, and sailing, the ranch centers around the classy log lodge and cabins. You can park the car and dive into vacation mode, as the ranch coordinates all the activities.
