Bike Trails
S Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail
When completed, this monumental path will stretch 101 miles from downtown Cleveland to New Philadelphia, following the path of the historic Ohio & Erie Canal. Already, some 80 miles of level crushed-limestone path attracts millions of walkers, joggers, and bike riders per year. Pick up the trail south of town in Valley View and follow it as it winds its way through beautiful Cuyahoga Valley National Park. The scenery along the path, which hugs and at times crisscrosses the Cuyahoga River, is simply amazing. Old canal locks and mile markers can be spotted, as can dense forests, fertile wetlands, and varied wildlife. Stop off at numerous visitors centers along the way to view historical and natural exhibits. Riders of all skill levels can enjoy this smooth trail. For those who have bit off a bit too much and are now dreading the journey back, the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad (www.cvsr.com) is a lifesaver. Flag down the train at any boarding station, hop on with your bike, and ride as far as you want for $3. Check the website for train times.
