A good value is the Sea Hawk Motel (12410 Coastal Hwy., 410/250-3191, www.seahawkmotel.com , $178-210). This older motel is a half block from the beach and offers 60 motel rooms and efficiencies with kitchens. Sleeping areas are separated from living areas. The rooms are spacious and clean, and there’s an outdoor pool.
The King Charles Hotel (1209 N. Baltimore Ave., 410/289-6141, www.kingcharleshotel.com , $114-189) is a small hotel a block from the boardwalk. The 22 rooms are modest but competitively priced and clean. They are available with one queen bed or two double beds. There are small refrigerators and microwaves in the rooms. The hotel owners are very friendly and make it feel more like a bed-and-breakfast (minus the breakfast) than a hotel.
The Atlantic Hotel (oceanfront on the Boardwalk and Wicomico St., 410/289-9111, www.atlantichotelocmd.com , $160-250) was the first boardwalk hotel in Ocean City. It was built in 1875 and was considered one of the finest hotels on the East Coast. It burned down in a devastating fire in 1925 but was rebuilt the following year. Today, the hotel is still going strong and offers guests a central location on the boardwalk and a rooftop deck overlooking all the action and the ocean. They offer 100 rooms with one or two queen beds, and there are also two apartments for rent on a weekly basis. The rooms are small and cozy but clean. They feature dark wood furniture and small private bathrooms. There is an outdoor pool for guests. The staff is very friendly, and the location is ideal for those wanting to stay on the boardwalk.
