Camping
Lodgepole Campground (214 sites, year-round, reservations summer only 877/444-6777, www.recreation.gov, May-Sept., $22) is located along the Kaweah River, 21 miles from the Ash Mountain park entrance. The campground has flush toilets, picnic tables, and bear-proof containers, and it’s less than 0.25 mile from Lodgepole Village, where you’ll find showers, laundry, and groceries. Off-season, only 16 first-come, first-served walk-in tent sites are available.
Dorst Creek Campground (222 sites, reservations 877/444-6777, www.recreation.gov, late June-Labor Day, $22-60) is located along Generals Highway, six miles north of Wuksachi Village. This is one of only two campgrounds (the other is Lodgepole) in the parks that accept reservations, and they are definitely recommended; Dorst fills up fast in summer. The campground has flush toilets, drinking water, picnic tables, fire rings, bear-proof containers, and a dump station.
The U.S. Forest Service maintains two campgrounds near Stony Creek Village. Stony Creek Campground (Generals Hwy., 14 miles southeast of Grant Grove, 49 sites, 877/444-6777, www.recreation.gov, May-Oct., $20) has tent and RV sites with fire rings, flush toilets, water, and food storage. Upper Stony Creek Campground (Generals Hwy., 14 miles southeast of Grant Grove, 18 sites, first-come, first-served, $16) has fire rings, picnic tables, water, and pit toilets.
