Stop 2: Why I Love Where I Live (234 E. 6th St.)

Kristin Tovar, co-founder of the popular local store Why I Love Where I Live, commissioned these two murals, both painted on Tucson’s 106th birthday. Artist Danny Martin painted one in homage to Tovar, who fell in love with the city while taking photos of it. The other mural, also by Martin, is a tribute to Los Apson, a 1960s-era Mexican rock band from Sonora.

Stop 3: Sonora (300 E. University Blvd.)

Costa Rican artist Karlito Miller Espinosa, aka Mata Ruda (@mataruda), teaches illustration at the University of Arizona, and he designed this piece with his students Analaura Villegas and Brisa Tzintzun. A woman’s face is the main focus, but the patchwork designs behind her represent the organizations that use the building.

Stop 4: Jack and Bill (318 E. Congress)

On the upper east wall of the Rialto Theatre, Ignacio Garcia painted Hall of Fame basketball player Bill Walton riding the mythical jackalope (a jackrabbit with antelope horns). The 75-foot-high mural is one of eight completed as part of the Tucson Mural Arts Program.

Stop 5: Vergiss (178 E. Broadway Blvd.)

Irish artist Fin DAC (https://findac.tumblr.com) is known for painting women from East Asian cultures with an intent to subvert long-held stereotypes. This beautiful piece—all bold oranges and teals—covers the brick wall of The Lewis Hotel.
