For me, running is that passion that raises the level of my game, makes me the best I can be. I’ve faced a personal test in this area though, an injury that has required two surgeries, the latter a hip replacement. What I’ve gained from this misfortune far outreaches what I may have sacrificed during this time. Before going through it, though, I would have only been able to label this experience as “traumatic.” I was always a “grateful” runner. Returning to the sport after this twist of fate has raised my appreciation for it to a new level.

While I may not have always gotten what I hoped for from the sport, the lessons gained along the way are precisely what allowed me to thrive and grow without it. Find your “sport” that lifts you to personal heights, whether it be something physical or a different kind of passion. It is all your own—cultivated, nurtured, and interpreted differently than by anyone else.
