Sacred Responsibility

The ancient fellowship’s session shifted to a discussion on the One Forrest seedlings.

Samadee explained the seedlings’ wonders and treetalking abilities.

Ju Dou stressed the Druids’ sacred duty of care, especially for those chosen as tree carers.

Kimmer, the Nafandi of the Soonsuch, raised the obvious conundrum. “If we take the Seedlings to Mu Palace, can we trust the empire’s representatives to take their care seriously? Who will guard and protect them, especially after their deployment throughout the empire?”

Nosirran had an obvious candidate in mind, but he knew Samadee would view Imperial Court as a jail sentence. He surmised that getting Samadee to move to the Palace was a task that would challenge the great Maghus Mage.

“All important considerations, Nafandi Kimmer, and ones that require careful consideration,” Nosirran announced to the Plinthary. “I suggest we shouldn’t make in haste. Let’s discuss this at more length. After all, we have all evening and pre-dawn ahead of us.”

After a few chuckles and nodding, the wiser ones among the Plinthary agreed.

The conversation moved on to the war with the mysterious giant knights and the dragon’s return under a united Krakenlore.

Samadee thoughts remained with her precious seedlings. She was mother to these strange, enlivened plants. She was the first to bond with them and wondered who else could care for them. The thought of giving the Imperial Immortals responsibility for the seedlings’ safety was perverse.

Samadee’s deliberations were suddenly interrupted by the impingement of a long-forgotten presence. You dare contact me! she responded in cold anger.

A mother can never forget a daughter.

Untrue. It was you who forced me from the Sisterhood, remember? rebuked Samadee.

A consequence of your hurtfulness , replied Magdaseer, the High Priestess to the Waters of Life.

My hurtfulness? queried an incensed Samadee. I disagreed with your manipulation and control. That’s a difference of opinion, Mother, not hurtfulness, she said before regaining perspective. But then you didn’t contact me to travel down that well-worn path.

True, I have a challenge. One uniquely suited to you, conveyed Magdaseer.

I have found my place, Samadee reaffirmed.

I offer new horizons. You can still be your own person and serve the Druid world and the Empire.

Another attempt at manipulation, Samadee replied.

Just listen, my daughter. Decide for yourself as you have always done. This request doesn’t come from the Sisterhood but through the First Men on behalf of dragon kind.

That Samadee didn’t expect, so she listened.

They want you to condition Thane Draghi to dragon mind speak. Apparently, he can’t fulfil his destiny as Warlord until he becomes a dragon mind-speaker. In your time training the Ebolah Ish, you handled the most stubborn Imanishi.

I disapproved of those methods. That’s why I left you, remember? Samadee queried in an accusative manner. Why expect me to think differently now?

Because things change, Samadee. Since your father died in battle, my life’s purpose drifts.

The news struck Samadee. She was close to her father. Losing contact with him was Samadee’s greatest regret in leaving her old world behind.

I’m sorry , Samadee relented. I trust he got an honourable death fighting the denizen .
