What is White’s best continuation?

18 Nxe7+!

18 Bxf6 Bxf6 19 Nxf6+ exf6 20 exf5 is obviously also very good for White, but not nearly as decisive.

18…Rxe7 19 Bxf6 Bxf6 20 Qxf6 Rg7 21 Qxd6 fxe4 22 Qd5+ Nf7 and Black resigned simultaneously, the bishop on d7 is hanging. The better move was 22…Kh8, but after 23 Qxe5 Bxh3 24 gxh3 Qc7 25 Qf6 White is winning. 1-0

10 0-0-0 dxe5 11 fxe5 Qa5 12 Nf3 Ng4 13 Rd5 b5 14 h3 Nh6 15 g4

In a top GM game from the Russian championship, White instead played the less forcing, but nevertheless possibly better 15 Kb1, although after 15…Nf5 16 Ne4 (16 Rg1 Nb6 17 Rc5 Bb7 is pleasant for Black) 16…Qc7 17 g4 Bb7 18 Rxd7 Qxd7 19 gxf5 Qxf5 20 Ned2 Bxe5 21 Qe3 Qe6, Black had absolutely no reason to complain about the outcome of the opening, Alekseev-Grischuk, Moscow 2012.

15…e6 16 Rd4 Nxe5 17 Nxe5 b4

Black could possibly do better with the intermediate 17…Bb7!?, for example, 18 Rg1 b4 19 Nd1 Bxe5 20 Rxb4 Bxb2+ 21 Rxb2 Qxg5+ 22 Qe3 Qxe3+ 23 Nxe3 Be4, and Black has the better chances.

18 Bg2 Bxe5
