DELIVERANCE

He wretched once, before me

on his hands and knees, an all-too familiar

Benediction.

Blackened knuckles white to the bone

supported his weight, amounting

to nothing.

Swivelling, using stumps of fingers

spread as uselessly as paws, one hollowed eye

blinked in recognition.

He wretched again, this time in

words. Love’s lost pledges,

tripped out from a moth-savaged

tapestry, the binding around his guilt-edged vault

of adult secrets. His relics of devotion,

talismans of reconciliation.
