About the target: This elliptical galaxy is roughly 49 million light years away and appears in the constellation of Virgo and x‐rays emitted by the central core suggest it contains a supermassive black hole. If you look to the left of M49 and just a little down you may see that smudge, which is another galaxy NGC4465. You may not however expect that the two stars between M49 and NGC4465 are not both stars! One is indeed the star GSC874:941 (the one closest to NGC4465) but the other is actually yet another galaxy, NGC4467.

Where it is:

Right ascension: 12h 29m 46.7s

Declination: +08° 00′ 02″

Imaging the target: Now we come to an elliptical galaxy and it is not a lot of fun to shoot because you will never get any detail out of it. Instead, what you may want to concentrate on is going very deep with long exposures and seeing how many other galaxies you can find in the same shot. For example, in the image I presented here of this target, there are several more galaxies in the image other than M49. Unfortunately we will never get any detail out of them either, but it is fun to see how many you can get.

I suggest long exposures of 400 or more seconds for my setup at ISO 800.
