Chapter Nineteen

Skye

“Skye, Skye please wake up! You guys, I don't know what’s wrong with her, she won’t wake up,” I hear Drik yelling.

I let out a small moan because his yelling is killing my head. “Drik, please stop yelling,” I whisper.

He pulls me up into his arms and hugs me as hard as he can. I couldn’t breathe, but I didn’t care. I’m home. That’s all that matters right now. I hug him just as hard.

“Don’t you ever do that to me again! I thought I lost you forever. One second you were there, the next you disappeared. I didn’t know where you went until Lex figured it out. How did you get inside the crystal?”

I pull away enough to get some air. “I will explain everything later. Right now, where is Semele?”

“You mean the guy you brought back out with you? He is over there with Zoey and Layla.”

I turn my head in their direction. They are chatting up like they are old friends. What the hell? How was he not affected by the transition like I was?

“Help me up. I need answers.”

Drik picks me up and places me on my feet. My head spins a little before I can get my bearings. When I do, I march over to Semele. “Um, hello? What are you doing and how are you not affected?”

He gazes at me like I’m a bug. “Because I’m a god, and you are not. I’m talking to these lovely ladies who were nice enough to help me.”

I take a deep breath to calm myself down. I will not let him get to me. I know all too well he is baiting me and I’m not going to fall for it. “Let’s get to work. We don’t have time to waste. Remember?”

“I think we have time to rest. Don’t you ladies? I mean, after all, we used a lot of magic to get out of that thing.” He pointed to the now clear crystal on the ground.

My annoyance is growing with each passing second.

“Skye, he is right. You are barely standing on your own two feet,” Layla says as she places a hand around me before I collapse. My adrenaline must have been the only thing keeping me standing.

Drik picks me up and cradles me in his arms. “I’ve got you. Let’s get you to our room so you can get some rest.”

I wanted to tell him I was fine, but I know he is right. I can barely hold my head up. Instead of arguing with him, I place my head on his chest. Before I know it, we are standing in our bedroom. He places me on my side of the bed.

“What can I do for you?”

“Come lay with me. I don’t want to be alone right now.”

He smiles down at me and crawls over me bringing me into his arms when he gets behind me. I cuddle deeper towards him.

“You scared the living hell out of me.”

“I’m sorry, I didn’t know it was going to do that.
