Rolling her eyes, she tossed the phone inside her purse, opening the car door. She’d rather take her chances inside than continuing to entertain her hormonal sister. It was alright for her brother to smoke weed all day and drink all night, but because she wasn’t married, on her third child and baking benne wafers in the middle of the afternoon, she was selfish?

Opening the door, she saw Kendall and Liam standing around, the normal kitchen noise echoing. She didn’t want to pull him away from his family, but he had a physical therapy appointment and a small part of her hoped that he was desperate enough to take a break from his family and forget about the colossal disaster of his last appointment. Feeling Riggins’s cold nose push against her leg lovingly, she smiled pulling out another chew toy.

The house felt different today.

There was noise and voices and movement. There was laughter and snickering. It was filled with Liam and his bare shoulders and big arms and thick beard, taking up much more room than he had before. He and Kendall both turning around, she forced a smile, feeling slightly ridiculous just standing there with a box of muffins.

Her eyes falling on him, her nerves surged as he watched her. She had spent the past twelve hours trying to figure it out, but when he had asked for her help, it had done something to her. It changed things. Or perhaps it was the kiss that had changed everything, but it was nice that he finally wanted her help. Wanted her here. Managing a hello, she carefully placed the muffins on the counter feeling him watch her every move. Ease and comfort rolled off of him instead of his usual crankiness, but he couldn’t look at her that way. It wasn’t appropriate. It wasn’t professional, and she wouldn’t make it through the gosh darn day, either.

“Morning.” Kendall smiled easily, and she was still taken aback by just how much she looked like her big brother. Reaching out, Kendall touched her Chanel shoulder bag with one hand. “Oh, I love this.”

“Thank you,” Emme smiled. She really was a sweet girl. And one with exceptional taste.

“Since when did you start appreciating handbags?” Liam snickered, draining the last of his coffee, everything muscle on his arm moving along with him.

“Since moving to New York,” Kendall shrugged. “There’s more to fashion than just dark denim and a Red Sox cap, you know.”

Sliding his Red Sox hat off his head, Liam grinned. “Nothing worth wearing, you mean.”
