In response to the claims, the Trump campaign issued a statement. Trump speech writer Meredith McIver took the blame for the mistake, alleging that she had helped Melania Trump write the speech, using Obama’s speech for inspiration, and that some of the original words had made their way into the final product. McIver submitted her resignation, but Donald Trump rejected it, calling the issue a simple mistake.
