That night was the start of something new. Ever since then we’ve been sleeping with each other regularly, fucking like starved animals more often than not. We created this bubble we live in. Or at least I created one. I fell in love, and the worst thing is that I know he’ll never love me back. Because every time I get closer, he withdraws himself. Every time I cross the sex barrier, I feel him slipping away. And it hurts.

His hand lands on the small of my back, bringing me back to reality. Paparazzi snap pictures of us, but I don’t even notice them. All I see is his intense stare, roaming all over my face. His dark irises looking into depths of my soul. “I think it’s destiny that brought us together.” His words echo in my ears, making my heart pick up its speed. With Santo, I never know what is a game and what is real. He never lets me past his walls. He built them up so high nobody could climb them. I never know what to expect from him, and right now he looks like he’s about to kiss me.

“Gina,” he says my name in a hoarse voice, “turned my world upside down the moment I saw her.” I shiver in his arms. His words make my stupid heart flip with happiness. “One look at her made me come back to life.”

Suddenly the reporters grow silent, the clicking of the cameras stops as well. I can feel everyone’s eyes on us, watching our every move, but I don’t care. All I see is him, looking at me with the intensity I’ve never felt before. It’s not lust or need. Something else flickers in his eyes. Sadness mixed with longing. As if I were both his poison and his antidote.

I know his words have a deeper meaning, I just don’t know what it is yet.
