CHAPTER 19 ANOTHER UNPLANNED OBSTACLE

Now that we had escaped the confines of my house, and the unplanned obstacle of a curious mother, the plan seemed simple enough. Yes, the plotting had started out way more confusing, but after condensing it down to the basics, the plan looked like this:

Get to the station and board the 11:13 train to London.

If all went according to plan, we would arrive in the city before midday, which meant that the journey was much quicker than any of us had thought, giving us the false impression that we weren’t as far away from home as we actually were.

Once off the train safely, we’d wait for the bus at a stop just outside the exit. Seb didn’t like the idea of being on public transport without responsible adults, so Plan B was to walk from the station to the parade instead. It wasn’t too long a walk, but we’d decided to cross that bridge when we got to it.

Once we arrived at Pride, the plan got a little murky, mostly because me, Bell and Seb didn’t really know what to expect when we got there. So, this part of the plan just said, rather vaguely, ‘watch parade and hunt for clues to fix things’. I had crossed out Seb’s addition of ‘and hope for the best’. It seemed negative.

We couldn’t quite decide on how long we should stay at Pride, but Seb, of course, wanted to get back home as quickly as possible. Therefore, we concluded that seeing the parade for an hour or so would be time enough before reversing the plan and heading back home.

REMEMBER THE LIE!!!! This didn’t just end the moment we touched back down at home. If our parents asked us how our day had been, or asked about Tish, or some time in the future said ‘remember when you went to Carmen’s pool party’, we had to remember the lie. Bell (and her books) had been pretty adamant about this. It would be just our luck to execute the plan perfectly, only to be busted three weeks down the line when we forgot our cover story.
