Over time, the Hail Mary developed and was eventually added to the Roman Breviary, along with the Our Father, in 1568:

Ave Maria, gratia plena, dominus tecum, Benedicta to in mulieribus, et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Jesus. Sancta Maria, mater Dei, ora pro nobis peccatoribus, nunc et in hora mortis nostrae. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Before the induction of the Hail Mary into the Breviary, music was also written in honor of Mary. We find her venerated in Gregorian chant and in other music written for or by monks at least as early as the thirteenth century.
