Chapter 14.5

Bubble Boy (Ed and Bo)

Ed looked over at Bo as Phil, Max, and Petro stormed out of the room. The door slammed shut as the team rushed the chimera in the main hall, the sound of muffled gunfire erupting on the other side.

The dining room was warded and heavily fortified. The circles under each chair were an example of how thoroughly the space had been considered.

Ed, Jenny, and Bo looked at each other.

Bo spoke up first. “You do remember me, darling. I believe Germany, winter, 1942. You, Tom, and that team of mercenaries came looking for the Nazis’ occult artifacts.” The rumbling yet soothing voice filled the space, Bo grinning at Jenny, his sharp teeth changing the tone of his face.

“We weren’t mercenaries, and if memory serves me correctly, you actually were one of the reasons we made it out alive,” Ed said, leaning back in his chair, a loud bang reverberating off the walls. The name alone was not enough to connect the two.

Jenny looked over. “This is all well and good, gentlemen; however, I think the boys could use a hand.” She stood up as another loud crash shook the room.

Jenny opened the door, dust floating in as the sounds of gunfire and Max shouting came in just before the door closed and sealed itself off, leaving Ed and Bo alone.

Bo stood up as much as the bubble would allow. “I wouldn’t go around spreading rumors about me like that. People may get the wrong impression.”

“The first and last time we met, Tom and I walked into a room that was covered in gore. Blood was dripping from the ceiling, and you had a man in your hands torn in half,” Ed said, the thought of the scene making him shiver lightly.

“Tsk, tsk, I was just hungry, and well you know. Those fellows weren’t up to anything productive, so I had a little snack,” Bo purred, sitting back down. You could tell the memory delighted him.

“You killed and dismembered twenty senior Nazi officers and scientists. You then proceeded to disappear. What were you doing then, and what the hell are you doing now?” Ed asked, getting to the point.

They had in fact encountered each other for a brief time. Mages often met more people with their extended lives than they could remember. Ed had always remembered the face and way the creature was dressed that day in Germany during the war. That memory was nightmare fuel. Tom and Ed spent countless days trying to figure out who or what Bo was. They had figured he was a demon; however, they were not sure why he didn’t attack them.

“Who’s counting? Anyways, I’m here because someone summoned me here. To be more precise, someone with the same blood that called me here last time. I’m still bound to them, so what I can say is limited, but I can tell you this. I have a feeling it’s the son or daughter of whoever summoned me last time. I ate them,” Bo said, raising an eyebrow, as the sounds of someone screaming filled the silence.
