The cheers and claps made us turn around. It was Jada and her pop pop. They looked impressed.

“I see school is in session,” Pop Pop joked.

“We take turns schooling each other,” Nana said, winking at me.

“Nana, you know my friend, Jada,” I said. “This is her pop pop.”

“I have another name, too,” he said, holding out his hand. “I’m Robert. Nice to meet you.”

“Lela.”

Jada and I exchanged looks and smiled.

“Can we go over to the playground?”
