Chapter Five
Training Obedience for a Golden Retriever Training in obedience is a 'petch-all' concept used in dog training to describe giving your dog a series of instructions to obey so that you can have more influence over them.
Obedience training encompasses a wide variety of discipline from the easiest of commands a dog can learn (such as 'down'
and 'stay') right through to very highly qualified formal obedience contests organized by local and regional clubs where both dog and handler are judged on precision and performance.
But the one thing that all obedience training holds in common, even before you can tell you've got a 'obedient dog,' is that you have to be able to give a order to your dog and they will RELIABLY respond and do the action any time.
Obedience Training Has More Opportunities Than Just Discipline Exercising the Golden Retriever daily has advantages above and beyond being able to comfortably lead them through life.
It's time for you and your dog to work together and thrive as a partnership that reinforces your relationship.
It instills a sense of trust and admiration in your dog for you to be their master, someone they can count on to 'take care of things' so that they can usually feel more confident. No need to make them feel sorry for the box, you've protected it all.
For the dog this is emotionally relaxing. Golden Retrievers are a working breed which is extremely intellectual and needs to be tested to feel useful. If not, they get depressed and may cause issues with behaviour.
At last ... It's fun! At least I think so and our dogs definitely perform some obedience training commands as described earlier, obedience training encompasses several different skill and difficulty levels.
In sport, certain specialized commands are used which are not purely necessary but may have uses in daily life or special circumstances.
So you do need a few very simple commands to make a difference, and to have the confidence to handle your puppy.
Easy Commands Every Dog Should Master Here's a rundown of five simple commands EVERY dog should know about.
⢠The Sit Order â holding your Golden in sitting position.
⢠The down order â which places the dog in a state of lying down. Not only lying straight down and spreading, but with all four legs (legs, not feet) hitting the floor and their sides.
⢠Remain Order â Which will allow your dog stay in whatever position they currently have, be it standing, sitting or 'down.'
⢠The Come Order â generally referred to as a 'recall,' where the dog will return back to you whenever they do.
⢠Heel command â Used to guide a dog to walk effortlessly on a rope where the dog's head or feet are right next to the side, and the rope is short and loose.
When you are able to teach your Golden to obey these five simple commands consistently, it will give you very strong influence of them.
You should have the power to lead them safely through life, and to direct them through circumstances when they may potentially become a threat or danger.
