CHAPTER NINETEEN
âBINGO!â CAT PUSHED her chair away from the computer and gave a little whoop of delight.
âThat sounds more promising,â said Dave, putting down the phone.
âGot a trace on Lyco.â She stood up. âComing with me? We could do with some fresh air.â
âFrom what you told me about that creep, the air would probably be fresher in the menâs karzy.â
âSo bring a peg. Letâs go make a house call!â
âWhat house call?â
âOh, hello maâam.â Cat calmed her enthusiasm. The boss didnât always go a bundle on frivolity. âIâve been hunting, Guv. In cyberspace. Iâve located the pervert who designed the computer game.â
âThe one with the Griffyx?â
Cat nodded. âDave and I were just about to drop in on the sleaze-ball.â
The inspector held up a hand. âBefore that, whatâs the connection with the masks?â Cat filled her in as concisely as possible, then added, âAnd this Griffyx character really likes to maul beautiful women.â She paused, âWell, actually he likes to do a lot more than maul them, but I guess here is not the place or the timeââ
âPrecisely.â The Guvânor threw her a dark look. âBut you can forget about the two of you tackling this creep alone. I really donât think youâve thought this through, Detective.â
Cat sat back down and stared up at her boss. A small âthank you, good work, Catâ, would have been nice.
âIf this man ⦠whatâs his name?â
âTerry James, maâam.â
âRight, well, if this James has a direct link to the masks, he could be very dangerous, apart from being a pervert.â She paused. âWhere does he live?â
âRydell Street, maâam. Over the off licence.â
âOK, weâll all go, and weâll take a few uniforms with us. And wear your stab-proof vests. As we have no idea what the agenda is behind the masks, we canât be too careful.â She stood up, then smiled down at Cat. âAnd good work, Detective. Itâs the first proper lead weâve had on those damned rat-faced masks.â
Cat said nothing, but could not contain the satisfied grin that was spreading slowly across her face.
